Newsletter

Greetings, Peace Bridge Community,

We hope you have all been able to "spring" ahead today and enjoy the sunshine. I know we are all going to enjoy the extra light at the end of the day, especially if you are like me with young children who enjoy an after-dinner playtime at the park or in your backyard.

This past week, our school, and seven other DSBN elementary schools, received an email containing a bomb threat. Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) was immediately contacted, and the affected schools, including Peace Bridge, entered lockdown procedures while police investigated. Our buses were diverted to Garrison Road Public School, and those who were walking or driving their children to school for drop-off were directed to return home by our staff until the lockdown was lifted. NRPS confirmed that the threats were not credible and originated from outside the region. Once our school was safely cleared, students were able to return, and we continued our school day. We are grateful to our staff for remaining calm as we followed emergency procedures and for supporting our students once they returned to Peace Bridge. We know these types of situations are incredibly difficult for both students and their families. As always, we will work with our DSBN Senior Leadership Team and NRPS to navigate emergencies and ensure our students are safe. Thank you for your support and understanding this week.

Congratulations to this week's class of the week, our FSP class! The Fundamental Skills Program (FSP) at Peace Bridge is a specialized program that focuses on students developing independence, functional academics and life skills. Our FSP students, their teachers and educational assistants are an incredible team whose kindness, hard work and constant individual growth and progress make them very deserving of class of the week.

We are Monsters: The Musical!

We are so excited that our Peace Bridge School musical presentation of "We are Monsters" is right around the corner. Our staff and students have been hard at work preparing for this event, and we cannot wait for you to see our students shine. We are grateful to our Parent Council for their generous financial partnership in supporting this endeavour, alongside our own school funding. From buying the rights to present the show, to stage piece construction, audio/visual rentals, costumes and makeup, program printing, etc., you can imagine this was a huge task! We did not want to charge folks to attend this event, as it was important to us that it was accessible to everyone who wanted to come watch. We will have a free-will donation box in lieu of ticket sales for those who want to help contribute to supporting this exciting Peace Bridge Arts event. We hope you will save the date and come see We Are Monsters at the end of the month!

Fort Erie Family of Schools Iftar

This past Thursday, we had the pleasure of hosting our Fort Erie Community of Schools Iftar. The evening was a wonderful success, with students and families from multiple schools and a variety of cultural backgrounds attending. A highlight of the night was the shared potluck, featuring dishes from many countries and cultural backgrounds. One community member shared that seeing our school host this event made them feel truly welcomed and part of the DSBN community. We are so glad that Peace Bridge students could attend and are proud to have helped create a space where families could gather, connect, and celebrate together during this special time of year for our Muslim families.

If you haven't had the chance yet, this month's NRPH Newsletter has a lot of important information and links, especially around immunizations. Have a great week, Peace Bridge!

Sincerely,

Liz Bonisteel-Lateef (she/her)
