Greetings, Peace Bridge Families!

Another wintery week has come and gone here at Peace Bridge. Apparently, Wiarton Willy has called for an early spring, so I like to believe that we have warmer days ahead. Until then, we continue to enjoy playing outside, especially when the sun is out and shining down on the brilliant white snow. A struggle we are currently having is some students making poor choices regarding playing with "hands-on" outside, pushing and shoving on the snow hills or throwing and kicking snow. We understand how exciting the snow is for our students and how important it is for everyone to enjoy outdoor time. Our staff are working to remain vigilant during outdoor supervision, and we are proactively repeating our outdoor expectations, coaching positive behaviour and when necessary, giving consequences and, when necessary, engaging in progressive discipline. We know ALL our Polar Bears can do what's expected, just like this week's "Class of the Week," Ms. Goodridge's Grade 5 Class! They have been working hard as innovators, constructing amazing bridges as part of their Structures unit in Science. They are also consistently calm and quiet in the hallways, kind to our lunchroom supervisors at break times and consistently do what's expected during outdoor time. Congratulations, Grade 5's, and enjoy Shiver!

Valentine's Day and Staff & Student Basketball Game Toonie Buy-Out!

Although we are not at school on Valentine's Day itself, we realize how excited many students get about this special day. Please reach out to your child's teacher if you were hoping to get a list of the first names of students in your child's class for Valentine cards.

We also wanted to assure our students and families that we WILL be doing our annual Dance-A-Thon, just not for Valentine's Day. Please look forward to a Spring Dance-A-Thon, April 2nd, right ahead of the Easter long weekend. This week, to celebrate our amazing Intermediate athletes, we are going to have our very own Shiver Invitational Staff and Students Basketball Game Buy-Out! Students will get the chance to see some of their awesome athlete-teachers jump on the court alongside our Intermediate Boys and Girls basketball team players and show off their baller skills! Students can bring a toonie for the buy-out OR a canned good item instead of a toonie. All donations will benefit the Community Outreach Program (COPE) in Fort Erie. What a fun way to end the week ahead of our long weekend!

BINGO Volunteers for February and March

Our Parent Council is looking for a few more BINGO Volunteer timeslots to be filled for both February and March. If you are already trained, great! Please consider signing up for one of our upcoming shifts. If you are not, click the link provided and follow the instructions, and you can do your online training in approximately 30 minutes. I actually completed my own training this afternoon, so now I can jump in for a shift or two myself! Thank you for helping us raise money that directly benefits our students through BINGO. For example, we have multiple school clubs and teams that have recently reached out to Parent Council for support, and BINGO has been able to directly and positively impact these groups' requests. Sign up and/or complete your training today!  https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1EvvapcHdSVdLf5FKcr2GF80AYHRQHsfZtB9d87_60go/edit?gid=80763330#gid=80763330

Picture Retakes

We have been informed that some families are missing their child's picture retake proofs. All proofs were given to students in December. If your child had retakes and you never received them at home, or the proofs have been misplaced or lost somewhere along the way, check out Edge Imaging's website https://edgeimaging.ca/en/contact-us/ OR call 1-888-416-3343. Miss Krystal spoke to our Edge Imaging Rep, and they indicated they can email you a code to view proofs online and order pictures.

Have a GREAT week, Peace Bridge!

Sincerely,

Liz Bonisteel-Lateef (she/her)
