Greetings PB Community,

Hoping our weekly message finds you all enjoying this long weekend! It seems to have warmed up enough to enjoy this beautiful, sunny, wintry weather. Hoping everyone gets a chance to get outside at some point, and please do not forget, NO SCHOOL TOMORROW for Family Day! Congratulations to Ms. Cann's Grade 7 Class for winning Class of the Week! As a group of intermediates, they have come a long way in making good choices and working hard academically. They are a friendly, creative bunch, and it has been a pleasure to see them grow as a class community.

Hot Lunches on School Cash-Online

We truly appreciate the thoughtful feedback we receive about our School Cash Online lunch options. Recently, in response to families who shared that they would enjoy more variety, our AMAZING Miss Krystal has been working with local businesses to try a few different options alongside our regular Friday pizza. We hope to use this trial period to determine favourites and then move to a predictable rotation (in addition to pizza Fridays) that reflects what our community enjoys most. If you have felt worried that your child is the only one not ordering special meal options, it may be reassuring to know that participation represents a relatively small portion of our 460-student community on any given hot lunch day. For example, pizza averages about 100 orders, while other options, such as Waffle Bandits, A&W and Subway average around 40 orders. That's less than 10% of our student population, and with the majority of students bringing lunch from home each day, this has not created an equity concern within classrooms, as no one child feels left out when most students do not opt in.

We also want families to know that the financial return for us from hot lunches is modest—typically between 50 cents and one dollar per order after food and online payment fees. Every dollar raised goes directly back to our students. These funds support All-Star Student t-shirts, weekly Gotcha Ticket draw prizes, pizza party incentives for classrooms and sports teams, classroom and special education supplies, library books and additional food for classroom snack bins, to name just a few things. We are grateful for your continued support as we work to provide options that balance variety, sustainability, and meaningful benefit to our school community. We are going to put out an online survey to folks over the next few weeks, so you can let us know your family's personal preferences, and we will take that into account for our future planning.

Special Celebrations and Observances

We are sending our best wishes to all who are celebrating special holidays and times of year over the coming weeks. Wishing all of our students and families who celebrate Lunar New Year a joyful and prosperous year ahead. May this special time bring happiness, good health, and meaningful moments with family and friends. To all our students and families who will begin the month of Ramadan this week, we hope for a peaceful and meaningful month of fasting, reflection and community with your loved ones. Our multi-faith room is open every day with ample space for prayers. Students who are fasting and do not wish to be in their classrooms while their peers are eating lunch are welcome to bring a book or quiet activity to the front atrium during the eating portion of their lunch. If your child is being excused for cultural celebrations or religious observations, please inform their teacher or the office in advance so we are able to mark them as "excused" in the attendance system.
