Greetings, Peace Bridge Community,
Apologies for the delay in this week’s community update! I was away at the end of last week and over the weekend, which delayed this communication with families. As I’ve shared before, our Parent Council does an amazing job helping keep families informed — not only about school updates, but also DSBN information and community events. If you haven’t already, you can follow them on Facebook by searching “Peace Bridge Public School Council and Community.” Even if I'm later than usual with an update, Holly does a wonderful job keeping up with everything going on at Peace Bridge that parents need to know!
Our Parent Council also deserves an extra shout-out for helping welcome our newest Polar Bears during Tuesday’s Kindergarten Open House. Alongside our teachers, DECEs, EAs, and administrators, Parent Council members connected with families and helped get our future students excited about starting at Peace Bridge in September.
Families were also greeted by “Shiver,” our newly purchased school mascot, who made a special appearance at the event! Thank you to our Parent Council for being such an important part of what makes Peace Bridge so special. Here's a picture of our new SHIVER! checking out the Kinder play structure before Open House began on Tuesday!

Track and Field Day!
It’s going to be an exciting week with our Track and Field Day coming up on Wednesday, May 13th (rain day scheduled for May 14th if necessary). A reminder that our entire Junior/Intermediate division — including students, teachers, and administrators — will be travelling by bus to GFESS for the day. Please remember to pack food and water for your child, as well as the necessary clothing for the weather that day.
Track and Field Day is considered a regular school day for all Junior and Intermediate students. It is a day to jump in and participate in events as well as cheer on and support peers. We welcome you to pop in and see your child compete in an event if your schedule allows. Here is the PB Track and Field Schedule to help you plan. Please know that we do our best to remain true to the schedule, but there can be discrepancies throughout the day.
Please note that there will be no alternate programming taking place at Peace Bridge during the event. If you are keeping your child home for the day, let Miss Krystal or Mrs. Dill know in the office.
EQAO Begins!
Our Grade 3 and 6 students are beginning to write EQAO this week. Something that has perhaps changed since you wrote EQAO as a student (or maybe like me, you never did!) is that we try not to overwhelm or over-pressure students during the testing. Students write small sections during a daily block each day, for multiple days. We really believe this helps students do their best work. Students also have anchor charts around their classrooms and other supports to help them do the work.
As the family/caregivers of Grade 3 or 6 student(s), you can help your child succeed by:
-Supporting them in getting a good night's sleep. This might mean limiting screen time in the evening or ending screen time an hour before bed to help their brain(s) wind down.
-Making sure they have breakfast and packing nutritious snacks and lunch that will help them do their best brain work. Now, in today's economy, that is easier said than done and as always, we will have our snack bins and lunch box program running as well as some additional snacks just for our EQAO students.
-Let your child know that they just need to do their best and show what they know. No need to be stressed! And if they feel worried, their teachers and other supportive, caring adults are here to help.
