Greetings, Peace Bridge Community,

Another exciting week here at Peace Bridge! A huge congratulations and thank you to our incredible Parent Council for working with some rainy weather on Saturday, pivoting plans and putting on an incredible event for our Polar Bear community: Shiver’s Spectacular Market and Fair: the Indoors Edition! This is truly a parent-led event, from start to finish, and our Parent Council, along with all those on the sub-committee working to organize Saturday’s event, cannot be thanked enough for their tireless work, organization, dedication, leadership and endless positivity. They are a wonderful group, and we cannot wait to update you on how the fundraising portion of the event went! Check out this picture with Shiver and some of our AMAZING Parent Volunteers on Saturday. Remember: It's not too late to get involved! Parent Council meets THIS Tuesday, May 26th, 5:30 - 7 pm in the Peace Bridge Learning Commons. New members are always welcome!

Sign-In and Sign-Out Reminders

A reminder about signing students in and out at Peace Bridge:

If your child arrives at school after 9:20 a.m., they must report to the office to sign in with Mrs. Dill or Miss Krystal and receive an arrival slip. Students are then required to give the slip to their teacher so their attendance can be updated and they can be accounted for safely. If you are escorting your child into the building, please stop at the office with them. If you are dropping them off at the front doors, please remind them to sign in at the office before going to class.

If you are picking up your child during the school day, please come into the building to sign them out with our office staff. We understand there may occasionally be situations where families are in a hurry, and we will do our best to accommodate you when possible and have your child waiting at the front doors to be released to you. However, the safest and preferred practice is for parents/guardians to come into the school and sign students out directly.

A few more celebrations from this week!

There were a few more really incredible moments I wanted to share from this week.

First, it was my pleasure to attend the Optimist Club of Fort Erie’s annual Youth Appreciation Dinner in honour of this year’s Peace Bridge award recipient, Dan Corneille. Alongside Dan’s family, we enjoyed an evening hosted at the Optimist Hall with Mayor Redekop, students and families from other local elementary schools, and members of the Optimist Club.

Each year, the Fort Erie Optimist Club invites elementary schools to nominate a Grade 7 or 8 student who consistently goes above and beyond expectations by demonstrating strong citizenship, a positive attitude, and a willingness to help others. It was incredible to hear about the many outstanding students across the greater Fort Erie community, and I was especially proud to speak about Dan and the remarkable young man he is. Since moving to Fort Erie last year, Dan’s positivity, kindness, hard work, and strong sense of citizenship have made a lasting impression on our school community. He is respectful to everyone in our building and is always looking for ways to support others. Dan made significant contributions to our sports program, not only as a player but also as a manager. Whether helping set up for events, staying late to clean up the gym after games, or checking with coaches to see if anything else needed to be done, Dan consistently demonstrated leadership and dedication.

Dan is going to do incredible things in high school, and we are so proud that he is one of our Peace Bridge Polar Bears. Here is a picture of Dan and his family at this past week's event! Congratulations DAN!

And a HUGE shout out to our Intermediate Co-Ed Three Pitch Team for a BIG win at this past week's tournament. They are the Tier 2 Champions! The team worked hard together, hit multiple dingers, and showed great hustle in the field with strong catches and solid infield play to bring home the title. Congrats to Mr. Quesnel and Ms. McCreadie for stellar coaching. We are proud of you all and can't wait to hang up another pennant to celebrate. Congrats to our Three-Pitch Champion Polar Bears!

Have a great week, Peace Bridge!

Sincerely,

Liz Bonisteel-Lateef (she/her)
