Greetings, Peace Bridge Families!

What an exciting week it's been with Thursday's snow day (and it looks like more snow is on the way to us this evening) and then PD Day Friday. With inclement weather through the winter months, please continue to check https://portal.nsts.ca/cancellations.aspx for up-to-date transportation cancellations as well as http://dsbn.org and DSBN social media accounts for school closures. Our parent council also does a wonderful job of promptly re-sharing DSBN's social media posts. Please give them a FB follow https://www.facebook.com/groups/1522970674754410 as another way to stay up to date.

Sports Spectators

During after-school sports games, we are happy to welcome spectators who have parental supervision. If your child stays after school without an adult present to supervise them, they will be asked to leave by our staff. We are not looking for verbal or written permission from a parent that their child is allowed to stay and watch. In order to ensure student safety, we need spectating students to be supervised by an adult. We really appreciate your support and understanding in this regard.

 Family Literacy Week

Every year, Family Literacy Day is celebrated across Canada on January 27th to raise awareness about the importance of reading and engaging in other literacy-related activities as a family. Taking time every day to read or do a learning activity with children is crucial to a child’s development, and we are excited to be promoting Family Literacy Day this year at Peace Bridge! If you'd like to download the Family Literacy Day Activity Book it has lots of great ideas and activities to help you enjoy this year's theme "Make Mealtime Family Learning Time". You can also visit their website https://abclifeliteracy.ca/programs/family-literacy-day/ for more activities, including a special after-school Zoom session event with celebrated picture book author Barbara Reid.

At Peace Bridge, we have created our own shared slideshow that you can drop pictures of your family living out this year's theme of "making mealtime family learning time". It could be following a recipe together, making a grocery list, creating a family cookbook, reading food labels, trying a new cultural food, or any great idea you come up with that goes along with this year's theme. Every family that submits a picture entry into our shared slideshow will be entered for the chance to win a gift certificate for a family dinner out at The Barrel. You can insert your pictures into our slideshow here: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1NQiRXpoyMdBOEWCbWFICWbKtwbkRtqwFzy1ujO2Fjys/edit?usp=sharing. Our winning family will be announced on Friday, January 30th.

Have a great week, Peace Bridge!

Sincerely,

Liz Bonisteel-Lateef (she/her)
